Valerie has always had a passion and love for horses. She grew up around horses and learned to appreciate the beauty and strength they possess. Through her teen years and into adulthood, she struggled with her own social emotional health and found peace in the horses’ presence. Her compassion and empathy for those struggling to find their place in this world are what drives her to share the magic that horses offer to discover their own magic.
She holds a certification for Equine Facilitated Learning Level One through the Human Equine Relationship Development Institute, earned her BS in Communication from University of Texas at Arlington, an MPPA in Public Policy and Administration from Jackson State University, Mississippi and is currently expanding her education as a doctoral student in Public Policy and Administration at Mississippi State University, Starkville.
She has over six years of experience in therapeutic riding and coaching and is utilizing this experience to develop programs and interventions for vulnerable populations.
Valerie is a certified Special Education 8th grade teacher, Special Olympics Club Unify Sponsor and Special Olympics Equestrian Coach in Brandon, Mississippi. She focuses on teaching all students in the area of social and emotional health and learning development for Special Education in tutorial and inclusion math and science classes by helping them discover their authentic self. Valerie was a recipient of a Mississippi Public Educators Classroom Grant (2020-2021) allowing her to introduce Equine Facilitated Learning into the public school system.
